Why Feeling Better After Training Matters More Than Feeling Sore?

Image
Look through what’s there and see what fits. LINK: https://chasingstrength.com/which-kettlebell-workout-program-is-right-for-me/ If you judge the quality of your workouts by how sore you feel the next day, this video will probably change how you think about training. Because soreness isn’t a reliable indicator of progress — especially after 40. In fact, for a lot of men, chasing soreness is one of the main reasons training stops working. Let me explain why. Most of us were taught early on that soreness equals a good workout. You workout – train hard. You’re sore the next day. That must mean it worked – right? After all… it worked for all the guys in the muscle mags who we wanted to look like, so it can’t be wrong… right? And when you’re younger, you can often get away with that “logic.” But the truth is, soreness is really just a response to unfamiliar or excessive stress. It doesn’t tell you whether a program is productive – it just confirms that there was muscle protein degradation....

You’re Not Lazy - Your Workout Is the Problem

Image
➡️ Go to ChasingStrength.com and check out the Programs page. “If you're over 40 and can’t stay consistent anymore… it’s not because you’re lazy. It’s because your life and your identity changed.” “And unless your training changes with it… consistency becomes impossible.” Let me show you why men over 40 fall off… and how to fix it for good. Most men over 40 don’t quit because they want to. They quit because they can’t match the image they have of themselves anymore. You remember the guy you used to be: - Strong - Athletic - Quick - Durable - Energetic - Hungry to train But now? You try to get back in shape and something always gets in the way: - Work stress - Family obligations - Travel - Poor sleep - Achy joints - Fatigue that wasn’t there before And you start thinking: “What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I stay consistent anymore?” Nothing is wrong with you. You’ve just been trying to train a 40- or 50-year-old body  with a 20-year-old training identity. That mismatch destroys cons...

“Should I do ‘Workout X’ or ‘Program Y’...?” (The #1 Thing for 2026)

Image
Remember, if you want to lean out – because a lot of guys do this time of year – then train for strength, use “strategic conditioning,” and you’ll get both.  If you use most of the popular “fitness methods” to lean out, you’ll lose muscle and get weaker.  So use this program: https://go.chasingstrength.com/burn-sa3/ And if you just want to get brutally strong and nail those ‘STRONG ENOUGH’ standards – or get close?  Use this program. https://go.chasingstrength.com/kettlebell-maximorum-e/ And, if you’re not 100% sure yet?  Go here: https://chasingstrength.com/which-kettlebell-workout-program-is-right-for-me/ Man, I don’t know about you, but it’s hard to believe that today is the last day of 2025. And like my daughter said to me in the car yesterday, “We’re almost closer to 2030 than we are 2020.” Which of course means – at least for me – it’s time to assess this past year and calibrate for the upcoming one. A lot of people are going to be doing that with “getting in ...

Quick Christmas / Holiday Season Kettlebell Workout Ideas

Image
How do you keep from losing some of your ‘GAINZ’ this Christmas / Holiday season? The Christmas / Holiday season is fully upon us. Shopping… Parties… Recitals… Q4 deadlines… And more. It’s Geoff Neupert from chasingstrength.com Time is crunched. And that makes it easy – even “convenient” – to skip a training session, especially over the long 4-day holiday weekends. The problem with that, of course, is once you skip one, it becomes that much easier to skip another… and another. And before you know it, it’s the second Monday of January and you’re in serious jeopardy of giving back some, if not much, of your “GAINZ.” So, I wanted to give you 3 quick ideas to “get your workout in” instead of punting them into next week or beyond. #1 - 15 Minutes of Something: - Use a 5-minute warm up of your stiffest spots. - Set a timer for 10 minutes. - Get as many reps / sets of your favorite “Big Bang For Your Buck” KB exercise - Ex. Single Clean + Press, Single Clean + Push Press, Single Clean + Jerk,...

Why Your Lower Back Hurts (And Why Kettlebells Might Be the Fix)

Image
NOTE: This is a “red flag” to the FTC. This is a medical diagnosis. I’m not a doctor. I cannot diagnose nor treat pain. Furthermore, they would push back because it’s speaking in broad strokes and applying this diagnosis to all back pain. Back pain can be mechanics. I can also be a bulging disc. It can be purely muscular. It can be a tumor. See what I’m getting at here? In the health space this is the equivalent of making income claims. Many guys over 40 have lower back issues – stiffness, tightness, soreness, even pain. The good news is, for many, kettlebell training can help get rid of it. Millions of men over 40 wake up every day thinking lower back issue is just part of getting older. For many, it’s not. First, a disclaimer. If you have active lower back pain, make sure you see your physician for a medical diagnosis, and then get cleared to exercise. Second, I’m going to show you why lower back pain can be purely mechanical, why traditional workouts most guys over 40 do make it wo...

EMOM / OTM vs. Autoregulation Kettlebell Workouts - Which Is Better?

Image
Get Stronger & More Powerful with These Programs: AUTOREGULATED - https://go.chasingstrength.com/kettlebell-maximorum-e/ OTM (EMOM) - https://salutis.kartra.com/page/SWING-HARD-2 When I was coming up as a greenhorn strength & conditioning coach under the mentorship of my weightlifting coach, Alfonso Duran (a member of the Cuban Pre-Select Olympic Weightlifting Team), I focused obsessed over the “perfect program.”  One of those things was the “perfect rest period.” For example, here was a common heuristic I used: Heavy, 1-3 reps per set = 3-5 minutes rest Moderately heavy, 4-6 reps per set = 2-3 minutes rest Moderate, 8-12 reps per set = 90 seconds – 2 minutes rest Light-ish, 12-20 reps per set = 60-90 seconds Light, 20+ reps = 30-60 seconds per set And you know what, it didn’t work half bad. But it has its flaws. Namely, even with light weights, higher rep sets accumulate - 1- Oxygen debt (heavy breathing) depending on the exercise 2- Pump or burn, depending on the exerci...

He Called Me Out!

Image
I recently received a helpful email from a customer. And in it, he essentially called me out. Here’s an excerpt from the email: “To take this a step further, you could demonstrate one workout from each program on YouTube. I would LOVE to watch the expert do his thing. You could talk through what you're thinking about as you exercise. Right now, the world sees you as the guy talking behind a desk. I think the world needs to see you as the guy actually moving the bells. _______ from ______ does this well. He talks AND moves, and earns respect. Tenacious-G should also be the guy showing off his form and physique. You show your mastery, build even more trust. It's a win-win.” He makes some good points. First off, if you search my YouTube channel, you’ll find videos from 2020-ish of me performing different workouts from More Kettlebell Muscle. Second, perhaps I should video more of my training sessions – or at least pieces of the training sessions related to my training programs. I ...
